Learning Outcomes
Upon completion students will be able to comprehend the processes and contexts of intergroup intercultural communication, and the basic concepts of identity and culture. To compare different theoretical approaches and employ different theoretical approaches towards the understanding of communication phenomena.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The module presents the basic concepts and theories of intergroup and intercultural communication. It examines how, on the one hand, our social identities affect the ways that we communicate with others and, on the other, how communication activates identities, stereotypes and prejudices according to which we think and evaluate other people. A number of topics are discussed such as identity, culture, conflict, mediated contact, stereotypes and prejudice.
