Learning Outcomes
Deepening into theoretical approaches to the concepts of risks, hazards and disasters. Understanding the concepts of climate change mitigation and adaptation. Understanding how different hazards put (vulnerable) communities/cities at risk (i.e. understanding the interactions between urban/spatial organization and risks) Familiarity with applied spatial planning practices for risk management and prevention, with an emphasis on the prevention of risks due to climate change.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of the course is to deepen the students' knowledge and understanding of the importance of risks/uncertainties regarding the vulnerability, resilience and sustainability of urban/land systems. This course also introduce an interdisciplinary discussion of the concepts of risk and disasters (natural and man-made) and examines the various management/prevention/response policies and tools. Particular emphasis is given: (α) on the possibilities of spatial planning through preventive and regulatory interventions, (β) on addressing the risks of climate change.
