Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will:
1) identify and compare large segments of genomes to study biological similarities and differences
2) understand the relationships of genes to various biological systems
3) know and use comparative genomic and phylogenomic tools to study mechanisms of evolution
4) predict and identify gene function
5) describe the evolution of gene families
6) identify and trace horizontal gene transfer.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basic principles, methodology and tools of comparative analyses of genomes related to the prediction of gene function, the elucidation of evolutionary relationships, the
evolution of gene families and the tracing of horizontal gene transfer.
