Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: 1) be able to filter and identify gene sequences 2) be able to estimate organismal diversity using metagenomic tools 3) become familiar with the most recent developments in metagenomics 4) be able to apply in experimental procedures the knowledge gained from a thorough presentation of the applications of metagenomics

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course seeks to provide a thorough introduction to 1) the methodology of metagenomic analysis, from sequence filtering and gene identification to the estimation of organismal diversity and comparative metagenomics, 2) the latest technical developments in the field, and 3) the wide range of applications of metagenomics, such as in agriculture, biotechnology, biofuels, environmental remediation, medicine, characterization of microbiomes from various sources, infectious diseases.
