Description
The study of Physical Education in the ancient Greek period contributes to a better understanding of the general context of education in ancient Greece. It is known that Physical Education formed the basis of ancient Greek education. Emphasis is placed on the spread of ancient festivals that were associated with sports competitions. Moreover, the greatest sporting festivals, events and problems of the ancient games are studied. Finally, there is a brief presentation and study of the sources related to sports activity from the geometric period to late classical antiquity. Throughout the presentations, philosophical issues of sports are discussed with the aim of interpreting the physical education of the past in order to obtain examples for dealing with future problems. The topics presented have been selected and are considered to be the most current in the philosophy of physical education.
