Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able:
1. to identify the impact of specific social structures (family, school, local community and society) on developing addictive behaviors and psychopathology.
2. to develop modes of collaboration with the school, family and community in order to reduce phenomena of addiction within multidisciplinary work
3. to design preventive programmes with target groups these of schools and families
4. to understand Greek and international research results relating to school education and substance abuse.
5. to comprehend all factors affecting the phenomenon of school failure in the drug user population.
6. to comprehend the importance of evaluation of prevention strategies and interventions in schools and the community

Course Content (Syllabus)
Τhis particular module is an introductory course on the way systems of school, family and community interact with particular focus on addictions. Especially students will be trained in methods of multidisciplinary collaboration aiming at the prevention and intervention on issues of addictions. In addition skills of how to deal with addictive behaviours will be presented and analysed within the framework of school and family.
In specific, the course will cover the following themes:
1. current socio-economico-political development model and addictions
2. the role of the family in addictions (relation between parents, parent-child relation, children's behavior management practices, parents' attitude)
3. The role of the school in addictions (teacher-student relation, teacher's relation with students' parents, teacher relation with colleagues, students' behavior management practices, teachers' attitude)
4. overview of prevention programs and interventions in schools
5. mentally resilient parents, teachers and children-adolescents
5. evaluation of interventions in schooling and the community
