Learning Outcomes
Students upon course competion should be capable to:
1. Understand the context and terms of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Digital Twins.
2. Understand the requirements and specifications - at both general and specific level - to implement BIM techology in engineering problems.
3. Use at an adequate level specific BIM software solutions for the design and execution of engineering projects.
4. Contribute to BIM-based engineering projects management.
5. Use at a basic level applications of BIM models and augemented reality.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction to BIM technology: Concept and Terminology. Levels of Development (LOD). Interoperability and standardization (IFC). Global initiatives and development and implementation standards. Extensions (CIM, BrIM). Case studies.
Working with ΒΙΜ software: Presentation and Comparison of software solutions. Creation of 4D and 5D models. Introduction and processing of data, graphs development, queries, data collection, and information extraction. Extensions to virtual and augmented reality (VR & AR). Digital Twins: Constructability, Life cycle, Twins types, Ontologies, Comparison to simulations. Case studies.
Construction design and execution with BIM technology: Project team building (formation – communication – virtual teams). Stakeholders expectation. Team-work assignment on BIM-based engineering projects management: BIM execution plan. BIM-based project management. Quality management and control. Information management.
