Learning Outcomes
fter the successful completion of the course, the students are expected to:
• perceive the basic design principles of the categories of earthworks applied in the construction of road projects
• apply basic principles and methods related to the safe design of earthworks
• tackle common problems that occur at road sections during construction
• understand the concepts of small technical works and culverts presented in the construction of road works
• assess the hydraulic engineering requirements of roadway projects
• demonstrate knowledge of earthworks methodology in the construction of roads
• have gained basic knowledge on the laboratory testing on soil materials, unbound materials and binders
• know the basic types of asphalt mixes
• know the basic principals of pavement design
• apply the AASHTO pavement design methodology
