Course Content (Syllabus)
Time and space are two of the most fundamental conceptual domains of human cognition. This is evidenced by the fact that every human activity takes place in time and space. The goal of this seminar is to explore the concepts of time and space as encoded in various languages, mainly in Greek and German, but also in other languages of the Germanic language family. With regards to time, particular attention will be paid to the boundaries between time, viewpoint and situation aspect. As for space, the seminar will address central questions concerning the relation between language and cognition.
