Learning Outcomes
Cultural criticism appears to be so old as the existence of culture itself. In this seminar, we wish to focus especially on the technological criticism as a form of cultural criticism through different texts of the 20th and 21st century, which opposes to the euphoric belief in progress. The humanitarian, social and political responsibility of the scientist relating to his research, for example in the face of a nuclear danger, is just as well a subject of the technological skepticism like other topics such as alienated lifestyles, damaged world/ environmental degradation, electronic supervision and genetics. Parallel to theoretical and philosophical texts, we will particularly examine fictional literary texts, in order to see which aesthetic devices they bring to bear at the examination of these fields of problems.

Juli Zeh: Corpus Delicti. Ein Prozess (2009)
Students learn (1) how to cooperate and participate regularly and actively, (2) how to present a literary subject orally and (3) how to write a written test. This way they become acquainted with (1) multiple methods of text analysis and interpretation, (2) the scientific handling of bibliography/ secondary literature and (3) their own production of scientific texts. The language of the course is german, which additionally helps the students improve their language competence.
