Learning Outcomes
Students are expected to: - understand the concepti of learning disabilities and to be able to differentiate them from other learning difficulties - acquire knowledge regarding the causes of learning disabilities and the specific learning and cognitive characteristics of pupils with learning disabilities - explore and understand the influnece of learning disabilities on pupils' well being and social interaction with peers - understand the difficulties that pupils with learning disabilities exhibit in social skills and the behaviour problems they may present - understand the importance of olistic interventions in the school context and to estimate the contribution of educators in the academic and social support of pupils with learning disabilities

Course Content (Syllabus)
1. Introduction: definitions of learning disablilities. Causes of learning disabilities. Types of learning disabilities 2. Manifestations of learning disabilities- cognitive characteristics 3. Enhancement of learning strategies and study skills 4. Psychosocial difficulties in pupils with learning disabilities: definition- the interaction between learning and psychosocial factors 5. Parents' reactions and practices 6. Internalising problems in pupils with learning disabilities: stress, anxiety, phobia, depressive symptoms 7. Externalising problems in pupils with learning disabilities:aggressive behaviour, conduct disorders, delinquency 8. Social skills of pupils with learning disabilities 9. Pupils with learning disabilities and the peer group: Social status and social interaction of pupils with learning disabilities 10. Self-concept and self-esteem of pupils with learning disabilities 11. Gifted children and adolescents with pupils with learning disabilities 12. Psychoeducational interventions: Educational therapy, social skills training, counselling 13. The educator's role
