Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to the understanding of spatial development concepts and approaches with emphasis on theories and methods of spatial analysis and spatial planning as well as on Greek and European spatial planning policies.
The main themes of the course are:
• Basic concepts and theoretical approaches
• Spatial planning: definitions and delimitations
• Settlement network and polycentricity
• Location of economic activities
• Integrated approach of transport and land use systems
• Sustainable spatial development in the EU
• Spatial governance and strategic planning
• Spatial planning systems and the regulation of urban expansion
• Strategic spatial planning: Prague and Thessaloniki
• Contribution of spatial planning to sustainability
