Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will be able
-To consider poetry in its entanglement with its contemporary as well as today’s social and political context conceptualizing the Politics of Poetics.
-To explore poetic innovations in aesthetics and modes and investigate their impact on world literature.
-To examine the role of an outstanding poet in shaping access to cultural texts in combining the close reading of texts with an historical overview.
-To combine theory with its application on texts as the students design their own approaches.
-To implement aesthetic and contextual approaches investigating recurring themes and motifs.
-To develop a method and construct a system in organizing intensive close up readings of texts.
-To collect and arrange appropriate research data in evaluating their significance for assignment planning.
-To develop skills in the close examination of texts and in making thematic and formal connections between them.
-To appreciate the use of technology and operate it effectively in the delivery of instruction, assessment and professional development.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The seminar focuses on the conditions under which the renewal of tradition in Greek poetry was achieved, in the first decade of the thirties. In particular, emphasis will be placed on the work of a group of poets who appeared in 1910 which gave the most representative volume of their work in the decade from 1920 to 1930.
Through poems of Romos Filyras, Costas Ouranis, Napoleon Lapathiotis, Tellos Agras, Mitsos Papanikolaou, Maria Polydouri and K.Karyotakis the influence of the french symbolistic poetry will be studied as a first type of modernistic expression.

Description
Integrated use of information technology inside and outside the classroom. Effective inside the classroom for face to face teaching through word and powerpoint presentations and outside the classroom via the internet for bibliographic information and online communication of the students with the tutor. Students have also access to information technology at the space especially equipped with computer software and hardware by the Department where digital technology infrastructure includes internet and web services to facilitate word processing and internet access.

Student Assessment
Description
Assessment is chiefly based on a written comprehensive examination administered at the end of the term. This final subject exam consists mainly of questions inviting essay-type answers testing integrated knowledge and writing proficiency. Students have already been informed about the grading (qualitative and quantitative) criteria throughout the term in the classroom, during office hours and via online communication but are also informed the very day of the exam as the marks each question attracts are noted at the rubric. The exam provides a standard that addresses the core competencies noted in the learning outcomes and concentrates on integration of knowledge rather than simple recall of isolated elements. Alternative assessment is offered in the form of writing assignments or essays in Modern Greek or any other language chosen especially in the case of Erasmus Exchange students.
