Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will be able to:
-Address the poetry and poetics of Kalvos featuring creative and analytical approaches, using a method, organizing a system and operating transitions from theory to practice.
-Appreciate his poetic corpus of the odes in Modern greek in relation to the history of movements (literary and political) of the era (enlightenment, carbonarism, neoclasicicsm, preromanticism, romanticism).
-Comprehend and distinguish between the literary and political movements of the era and formulate their principles on thematics and rhetoric succinctly.
-Connect theory to practice in applying principles of thematics and rhetoric to the reading of poetic texts.
-Collect, operate and evaluate research data.
-Design, compose and present papers towards the integration of knowledge, the critical assessment of issues and the introduction of new, original ideas.
-Organize projects and solve problems both at individual and team work level.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on the poetic corpus of Andreas Kalvos written in Modern Greek. The texts are studied based on their thematic and rhetoric which are examined in their generic context validating Kalvos's Poetics of diversity. Exploring the distinctives of his poetics goes hand in hand with matters of his world-view establishing a dialogue of poetics and politics (metaphysical, idealist or political, social poet / a patriot or a rebel). The examination of his work addresses its reception by older and newer critics focusing on his reception by later Modern Greek poets.
