Management of Water and Wastes in Agricultural Industries
Introduction and historical background of environmental pollution. definitions of relevant terms. Pollution of water, soil and atmosphere. Agriculture and environmental pollution. Food pollution. Waste and pollutants from food industries. Basic principles of waste management. Flowcharts. Waste separation. Mass balances. Rational use of water and recycling. Treatment and disposal of waste water. Limits values related to waste quality parameters. Relevant legislation. Primary treatment of wastewater. Secondary treatment (biological treatment). Wastewater treatment by the method of constructed wetlands. Tertiary treatment of wastewater. Water disinfection methods. Solid waste management. Byproducts utilisation in food industries.
