Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students are expected to have a global view on the issues addressed by the Energy and Manufacturing divisions of the Department. Students obtain a certain overview of various technologies, in order to have an overview during the practice as Mechanical Engineers, independent for their choice of Division and specialisation courses.
Course Content (Syllabus)
Internal Combustion Engines: Historic review, IC engine classification, engine assembly, Thermodynamic cycles. Sizing and use of IC engines
Introduction to Turbomachinery, typical layouts. relative motion of blading, efficiency and degree of reaction. phase changes in turbomachinery, cavitation.. Turbomachinery maps and characteristics, dimensional analysis. Operation of multi - component turbomachinery networks. Axial, Radial and Mixed flow machines.
Machine Tool Classification for cutting and shaping. Transportation and lifting devices. Physical Process devices. Power transmission systems.
