Learning Outcomes
With the successful completion of the course, the postgraduate students are expected (a) to deepen their knowledge on a major genre of ancient Greek literature, epic poetry, (b) to study Apollonius Rhodius Argonautica, (c) to acquaint themselves with the stylistic devices and the generic conventions of epic poetry and (d) to make oral presentations and write an essay on a subject related to Apollonius Rhodius Argonautica.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This postgraduate course aims at the study and interpretation of ancient Greek epic poetry. Special emphasis is given to the features of the epic tradition and the generic conventions of epic. The epic under discussion, the Hellenistic epic poem Argonautica by Apollonius Rhodius, is taught in the original Greek with reference to specialized bibliography (monographs, articles and commentaries).
