Course Content (Syllabus)
The graduate seminar offers a survey of the literary genre of parody and has as its focus the literature of the Cynics. We will survey the genre of parody from its first instances in the archaic age to the fourth century and then we will study the specific contribution of the Cynics. Students work on the presentation of a scholarly article and a short assignment and participate in the dialogue in class during the semester. A topic for a final essay will be assigned based on the wide thematic range covered by the seminar, and the students' familiarity with texts and secondary bibliography at the end of the semester.
