Learning Outcomes
It will enable students to appreciate the philosophical dimension of central problems in psychology. It will also enable them to discuss different views and approaches to the central themes of cognitive science research.

Course Content (Syllabus)
In this graduate seminar we discuss in depth theoretical and philosophical issues that have arisen in the recent discussions and controversies in cognitive science and cognitive neuroscience. Examples of such issues are: the Language of Thought Hypothesis, the relations between language and thought, the function of consciousness in controlling behaviour, the kind of logic employed by human thinking, the role that the concept of happiness plays in human behaviour, the relation between phenomenological experience and self consciousness, the concept of representation, the systems of knowledge representation, theories of humour, of comical and laughter.
