Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of the course is the acquisition of the fundamental knowledge on issues related to indoors mechanical infrastructure, electrical installations and lighting in order to enable architects to work with the respective specialists. MECHANICAL SERVICES Basic notions of the areas of Energy, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Heat Transmission. General principles of services. Basic principles and design of plumping and sewage and their impact on architectural design. Elements of noise control. Heating and cooling of buildings through examples of calculating the heating demands of a building. Central heating design. Boiler house design. Special features of natural gas in residential buildings. Methods of heating water and technical specifications of elevators. ELECTRICAL SERVICE Basic electro logical concepts (circuits, elements of electric circuits, single and three-phase systems). Indoor electrical systems, low voltage systems. Artificial lighting systems and techniques. Wiring of buildings. The Assignment concerns the design of the basic electromechanical services of a single family residence. In this context the assignment must include the calculation of the needs for heating and cooling and the design of the heating system. The design of the sewage and watering system as well as the design of the electrical system are also required.
