Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester, the students will be able to recognize and analyze the traits of the major film movements of the 1950-1970 period, explain the relevant sociopolitical context and evaluate the influence of previous films and/or genres.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course covers film history from the end of the 1950s to the 1980s. We examine the French Nouvelle Vague, the New Cinemas (1958-1980), New Hollywood and its main representatives, the evolution of the major film genres, the beginning of contemporary american indies, Greek cinema and American television. In addition, we examine the changes in film technology, the rise and impact of video and DVD on the film industry and the contemporary production and distribution methods. Finally, we present the basic principles of academic writing.
