Course Content (Syllabus)
Why to deal with values and semiotics? This question will be in the centre of a reflection throughout the semester. All modern theories of values are in a dialogue with them. The only way to achieve a meaningful familiarity with values in the field of semiotics is to know the analytical tools of the semiotics and the theory of 'values'. Thus, the question of the course is on the values in the wider social sphere, focusing on the global vision of a new value education and not only. In the first part of the course, we define the meaning of 'value', the theory of values, as well as some the classifications of values, values in education and their relationship with the economy and development, as well as the role of the International Organizations, the New Values Education and the UNESCO International Commission , chaired by J. Delors (2002). The second part of the course deals with the decoding of linguistic and iconic texts through a semiotic perspective, emphasizing the way in which values are presented in texts of the wider social space. The evaluation is an analysis of a video of an international organization or commercial advertising on the value of 'wellbeing'.
