Learning Outcomes
At the end of the semester the student can:
1. describe the historical evolution and formation of the liturgical books of the Triodion and the Pentecostarion, which are in use
2.analyze the reasons and the conditions of the movable feasts' constitution.
3. explicate with clarity and accuracy the content of the hymns in each feast.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Feasts and hymns, with the consequent typical forms, set up the liturgical books of the Triodion and the Pentecostarion, which involve the movable feasts from the Synday of the Publican and the Pharisee to the Sunday of All Saints. These books constitute the liturgical collections, taken shape through the centuries, inside of various stages of development. During the semester we will present the process of conformation, the content and the structure of these liturgical collections as well as the theological content of the movable feasts depend on Easter.
1. The constitution of the Triodion and the Pentecostarion and the stages of the handwritten and printed development
2. The hymnographical material and the poets of the printed Triodion and Pentecostarion, which are in use
3. The first, second and third Sundays before Lent
4. The Lent and the Sundays in Lent
5. The first Saturday in Lent and the Akathist hymn
6. The Great Canon of St Andrew of Crete
7. Lazarus Saturday and Palm Sunday
8. Great and Holy Week
9. Easter and Bright Week
10. The weeks after Easter
11. The Mid-Pentecost, the Wednesday of the Sixth Week and the Ascension of Christ
12. The two All Souls’ Days
13. Pentecost and the Sunday of All Saints
