Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: -Clarify basic concepts relating with the social role of religion in Second Modernity. -Approach critical social issues in the modern world in an interdisciplinary way involving its social, theological and cultural aspects -Analyze the relation between theological and social studies, humanities and other sciences -Assess basic principles of analysis on the fields of modern social, ethical, theological and cultural issues relating with peace, war, climate change and social justice in the interconnected modern world -Value the role of religion in the modern world

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course will critically examine the aspects, causes and analytical categories of current social theories on the role of religion in the issues of peace, violence, social justice and climate change. Particular emphasis will be given to presenting the key positions of the Orthodox Christian tradition on these issues, as well as on contemporary social discource. In order to better clarify the implications of the turn of events in the Second modernity a special focus will be given on the theory of Ulrich Beck focusing on the modern social theory analysis. The course will explore as key themes the following topics: Second Modernity Societies- Risk- Culture- Religion.
