Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to
- discuss the interactions and combined effects that different characteristics (environmental, economic etc.) can create in the development course of of an area
- identify different / alternative development paths that different spatial units are likely to reach based on their development policy
- acknowledge the tools and methods by which the feasibility and usefulness of development planning is confirmed or rejected, based on the actual results and the effects it produces or is expected to have on the development path of a region or a sector.
- use of different methodologies and tools necessary for the design and implementation of development programs (eg foresight, indicators, etc.)
Course Content (Syllabus)
What are development programs and how are they funded? What is their time horizon, how are they shaped (designed / implemented) and how are they evaluated? The course focuses on planning and evaluation of development plans discussing a number of interdisciplinary topics (sustainable development, innovation, transport, social cohesion) as well as the complexity of their relationships.
