The student who has successfully completed the course will be able to: - Know and evaluate the quality characteristics of forest biomass and other similar raw materials that can (either purely or combined) be used in the production of biofuels - Know both biofuel production technologies and parameters that affect product quality - Know and evaluate the quality characteristics of biofuels. - Know the procedures for determining the quality characteristics of biofuels - Know the quality systems and certification procedures of biofuels - Know the effects of biofuel use on the Environment and Health

Course Content (Syllabus)
- Energy and climate change - Energy and woody biomass - Types of biofuels (solids, gases, liquid biofuels, emphasis on solid biofuels) - Main sources of biofuels (raw materials, characteristics of forest biomass depending on the type of plant tissue) - Production of solid biofuels (methods, equipment, production parameters) - Quality characteristics and certification of solid biofuels (calorific value, ash content, moisture content, elemental analysis, spatial density, mechanical strength, etc.) - The market of solid biofuels in Greece and in the world (trade balance, usage rates, etc.) - Impact of biofuel use on the Environment and Health
