Learning Outcomes
After the successful completion of the course the students will be able to: - encompass situations worth of legal protection in the general field of consumer protection - identify the suitable legal provisions for providing protection according to national and Εuropean law - answer specific questions about the limits on consumer protection through an assessment of the consumer's interest and the one of the supplier - be able to develop arguments and resolve legal cases on issues concerning the materials covered in the course.

1.Sociological and legal-political substantiation of the need for consumer protection 2.Considerations from the standpoint of Constitutional Law for the provision or non-provision of consumer protection 3.Consumer protection in European Union Law – Minimum or full alignment/harmonization – More recent trends 4.The legislated concepts of “consumer” and “supplier” 5.Consumer associations and class action suits 6-7.The protection of consumers from abusive TOS 8-9. Protecting consumers in contracts concluded away from business premises and in contracts of distance selling 10. Consumer protection in contracts of distance marketing financial services 11. Warranties for the durability and quality of consumer goods and after-sale service 12. The liability of professionals providing services 13. The liability of the producer of defective products 14. Consumer protection from advertising 15-16. Protecting consumers from unfair commercial practices 17. Consumer protection in consumer credit contracts – The principle of “responsible lending” 18.
