Learning Outcomes
After the completion of the course the students will be able to: • execute Flat forehand and backhand strokes in the cross and longline direction, and Low Service with a correct technic, • recognize frequent technic errors in the execution of the above strokes, • use ways and methods to correct technic errors, • know the Greek translation and the meaning of basic terms of the English terminology of the sport, • apply all the special rules of the sport in a Game-set, • to compete individually in singles, and as a team in a doubles match that ends only with a regular game, with or without the presence of an umpire, • to teach basic elements of the sport to people who are interested in playing tennis (athletes or students) who are at the beginner level.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Familiarization exercises with players equipment (ball and racket), - Court facilities. Basic English terminology. Possibilities for exercising the sport in a schools environment, - Teaching methods of the basic strokes, Analysis of kinematic characteristics. Common and possible errors in each stroke. Error correction, - Ready position. Handshake grip, - Introduction to the flat forehand, technic training, - Introduction to the flat backhand, racket grips with their Greek and English terminology, - Mini – tennis, cross and long line strokes, - “Low” service, numeric counting of points - Precision exercises to improve “feeding” ability and for giving the right direction to the ball. The “loop” and the various phases at the movement of the racket, - Beginning of a match after winning a toss and chose of ends. When a point is won or lost. Score counting during a tennis match, - Cases of “Foot fault” and service fault. Service let and replaying the point after a let. Change sides, - Players movements on the court and analysis of the specific footwork. - Introduction in singles and doubles.

Student Assessment
Description
During the entire semester the regular and active attendance of the course (30%) were evaluated, while at the end practical (40%) and theoretical (30%) examinations of Tennis are following. At the practical part students were examined: a) individually in the technique of the strokes after feeding by the teacher-coach and b) in pairs in match conditions (3 regular games). Written Exams are performed for testing the theory of the sport. Essential condition for final success in the exams is achieved when at least the grade 5 ("sufficient") in each one of the three Exams parts is reached. The criteria are explicitly reported in the Syllabus of the course and communicated to the students in the first lesson. Moreover, the criteria can also be found in the Department's internet page of the person who is in charge of the course.
