Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will have acquired the following knowledge, skills or abilities (what they can do and by what means):
1) Familiarity with the handling of topographic instruments
2) Ability to calculate coordinates (in GGRS '87 - EGSA '87 -WGS '84, Hatt, UTM, etc. systems)
3) Ability to design topographic diagrams
4) Compilation of a topographic diagram with modern methods and means (use of Cad programs)
The completion of the course is considered successful when the students, make Field Measurements, process them in corresponding software and give coordinates of two and three dimensional paper and draw topographic diagrams with contour finding and area measurement
Course Content (Syllabus)
Topography deals with the mapping of a place on a map. Learning the topographical units of measurement, scientific instruments, methods and calculations required for horizontal and vertical land surveying, as well as tachometric surveying is part of the subject of surveying. The field measurements for drawing up a topographic sketch and calculating the surfaces under consideration is a necessary knowledge. Knowledge of land slopes, the use of inclinometers, and how to map them is required. Distance measurements by electromagnetic method and with different types of GPS (handheld, single frequency, dual frequency) as well as using Unmanned Aircraft Systems - UAV. Correcting field measurements taken based on magnetic north and importing them to maps with geographic north. Geodetic systems of Greece and the World and learning to convert coordinates from one system to another. Compilation of topographic diagrams and calculation of surface area by various methods.
