Course Content (Syllabus)
The course includes the understanding of targets and methods of teaching and learning of Mathematics to young children, through studying the results of research. In parallel, aims at practicing students to connect theory and research findings with teaching. At the beginning, general issues of teaching and learning of Mathematics are studied, like the importance and particularity of Mathematics for children 4 to 8 years old, the content and the targets, modern theories of learning and teaching Mathematics and the basic characteristics of mathematical activities. In the second phase, the course focuses on introducing ways of designing a learning environment in which the Kindergarten children are getting involved with an organized activity that aims at teaching a specific mathematical concept.
