to justify the selection of evidence based practice in Special Education and in Learning Disabilities
to discuss the need of early screening for Learning Disabilities
Course Content (Syllabus)
The goal in this course is towfold: a) students are expected to explore the relationship between Special Education and Learning Disabilities and to understand the content of inclusive education and b) students are expected to indicate the content of Learning Disabilities and to recognize these disabilities as a special diagnostic category.The following thematic units will be presented: Theoretical approaches in Special Education and in Learning Disabilities. Inclusive Education. Diagnostic procedures and special needs. Organization and structures of Special Education. Effective instruction in Special Education. Definition of learning disabilities. Etiology and theoretical models for Learning Disabilities. Learning Disabilities and Developmental Impairments. Characteristics of children with learning disabilities. Learning disabilities and bilingualism. Screening for learning disabilities and diagnostic procedures. Educational assessment in Learning Disabilities. Key principles and models of intervention in learning disabilities. Methods and techniques.
