Course Content (Syllabus)
The basic concepts/principles of spatial planning are analyzed together with environmental management issues. Special focus is put on: (a) regional policies, emphasizing their environmental dimension (effects of regional policies on the environment, identification and assessment of environmental pressures, analysis with the help of a system of sustainability indicators, etc.), (b) sustainability of urban areas (urban green, benefits of open (public) spaces, green and blue infrastructure, quality of life and urban environment, etc).
The analysis is carried out on two scales: (a) on the scale of the regional unit, and specifically on areas with special spatial and environmental characteristics (coastal zones, mountainous areas, protected areas), as well as (b) on the neighborhood scale, where potential interventions in urban open spaces are explored.
Project assignment: Group work on a project with two distinct stages: (a) assessment of the current situation within the study area (development status, planning policy, environmental problems, etc.), (b) Final proposal for spatial organization.
