Learning Outcomes
Expected learning outcomes: To have a thorough knowledge of the texts discussed in class (literary and filmic as well)/ familiarization of students with traits or tendencies found diachronically in fictional “impossible” love affairs/ Ability of students to recognize and analyze the interconnections between fictional worlds and social contexts they based upon/ to sensitize students to the notion of alterity / improvement of the students critical thought.
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course deals with love affairs in literature and cinema, made impossible on the basis of irreconcilable differences between social status, nationality, racial belonging etc. of the lovers. Romeo and Juliet is a prototype of these kinds of relationships, but in recent times the repertoire of incompatible connections is enriched by liaisons between humans and extraterrestrials (Avatar), even with vampires (Twilight).
