Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: 1. have acquired the knowledge of how to apply basic clinical skills, regardless of the therapeutic approach. 2. may conduct a clinical interview with the aim of psychological assessment or psychotherapy. 3. have acquired the necessary knowledge to deal with crises in the clinical practice 4. have the knowledge to address ethical issues arising in the clinical practice

Course Content (Syllabus)
Ethical issues in psychotherapy (confidentiality, dual relationships, competence, consent). Discussion on issues arising in family psychotherapy and psychotherapy with adolescents. Discussion of individual differences and the importance of sensitivity of gender differences, cultural differences, and differences in sexual orientation. Basic clinical interview skills and background history. Basic counseling skills (and exercise). Expressing the problem (based on general principles of psychology). The therapeutic relationship (especially with regard to the therapeutic alliance). The context of treatment. Notes and file keeping. Intervention in the crisis: Definition of the crisis. Objectives of the intervention. General Techniques for Intervention. Extensive discussion of suicidal ideation.
