Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students will: 1. acquire the necessary historical and theoretical background concerning the connection of art with society from the period of Modernism to contemporary art 2. explore specific aspects of contemporary art strategies and practices, with reference to feminist and postcolonial movements, class movements, and activism in the defense of rights (sexual identities, races, etc.) 3. approach the way artistic labour is defined in the contemporary context 4. understand the artistic practices of social intervention in relation to the institutional framework of contemporary art

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course focuses on specific theoretical approaches and artistic practices related to developments in the field of contemporary art, at the level of artistic production and curatorial processes. These approaches and practices are critically identified through their convergence or identification with the field of social action and intervention, activist strategies and policies of collective formation, as they are shaped in relation or in opposition to the dominant institutional framework. Discourses and practices related to feminism, post-colonial and post-socialist approaches, artistic labour, social action in the context of globalization, the reconstruction of history and geography are examined.

Description
Teaching involves use of computers and systems of projection and sound for power point presentations, video projections and sound reproductions, internet, and the e-learning platform for uploading all relevant educational material (presentations, bibliography, etc.). Communication with the students takes place via email and the e-learning platform which is also used for the assessment. The technology of distance education is also used.

The evaluation of the students involves: * presence and participation in lectures and seminars (30%) * presence and participation in the relevant scheduled educational activities (visits to museums, conferences, events, etc.) (15%) * assignments, presentations, exercises, etc. (20%) * final assignment(35%)
