Upon successful completion of the course, students will: • have expanded their knowledge about the main tenets of psychoanalytic theory regarding the human mind and psychological distress • Be able to articulate a psychoanalytic formulation and to design an appropriate intervention based on clinical material • Be familiar with the main principles of psychodynamic practice

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course aims to expand and deepen students’ knowledge of the main principles that guide psychodynamic psychotherapy and on important aspects of psychoanalytic technique. The material covered is partly determined based on the questions arising and the challenges faced by students in their practice of psychoanalytic therapy on their clinical placements. The following topics are covered: formulation from a psychoanalytic perspective, working with resistance in the process of psychotherapy, technical considerations in psychoanalytic interpretation, negotiating the therapeutic relationship, working with dreams and other aspects of unconscious communication, and understanding psychopathology from a psychoanalytic perspective, with a focus on personality difficulties.
