Learning Outcomes
The objectives of this course for the students are:
• To inform them about the content of psycholinguistics and the methods that are used in psycholinguistic research, as well as the broader theoretical issues that are developed therein
• To develop their ability to identify the relevant answers in the theoretical paradigms from which these answers originate and support their own reasoning
• To develop their ability to discern the kind of language pathology from a certain speech sample
• To be able to recognize in which stage of cognitive development can a certain sample of child language can be attributed
• To be able to attribute the stage of language production in which a certain sample of speech occurs.

Course Content (Syllabus)
This course is an introduction to the basics of psycholinguistic research and the core issues which are developed therein. After an overview in the history of the discipline where both the main theoretical trends and the methods used are presented, the following topics are discussed:
the general features of language in relation to the attempts of teaching language to apes; language evolution and acquisition; language and brain, aphasias; Piaget’s theory concerning the conceptual development and its relationship to language; developmental disorders; thought and language; speech production.

The students' gained knowledge during the course is assessed through
a) a mid-semester assessment exam 20%
b) a written exam in the end of the semester 80%
