Applied Hydraulics Open Channel Hydraulics Water supply and drainage networks Engineering Hydrology Groundwater Hydraulics
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will have: - The understanding of integrated management at the watershed level. - The ability to calculate the water supply and availability of a watershed. - The ability to calculate the water demand of different water uses - The ability to calculate the hydrological and water balance of a river basin - The ability to design and calculate the volume of a reservoir or other water storage project - The ability to plan the operation and optimization of a water resource system
General Competences
  • Retrieve, analyse and synthesise data and information, with the use of necessary technologies
  • Adapt to new situations
  • Make decisions
  • Work autonomously
  • Work in teams
  • Respect natural environment
  • Be critical and self-critical
  • Advance free, creative and causative thinking
Course Content (Syllabus)
The aim of the course is to introduce: - the concepts and techniques of river basin water resources management, - the legislative framework governing water resources management at the Greek and European levels, - the simulation and optimization of water resources systems and - the development of river basin water resources management plans. The student acquires knowledge of the study and design methodologies in the management of surface and groundwater resources of a catchment. The student shall acquire a theoretical and computational background for solving problems of watershed design and management of both natural and artificial water resources that may be found in a watershed. An adequate knowledge of the course provides an important theoretical background for the design and planning of hydraulic works and related structures.
