General Prerequisites
This course is an extension of the course with the same title and code and can only be chosen in conjunction with it. In this seminar we will deal with the phenomenon of migration over time, how (and if) migrants are differentiated from refugees and how this is expressed in literature and in various other art forms. Also how migration is defined in relation to refugeeism. We are mainly interested in migration to and from Greece and to and from Germany. Historical milestones are the decades 1920/30, 1960/70 as well as migration after the economic crisis until today. Writers, filmmakers indicatively: Sourounis, Apostolidou, Markaris, Kazan, Gavras, Akin.
Learning Outcomes
Students are expected το - understand the differences and similarities between migration and refugee situations - understand the historical context of migration, particularly in relation to European colonial history - become familiar with the different migratory writings in literature - practise critical thinking and the formulation of opinions on migration discourse
