Learning Outcomes
Knowledge: Familiarization with the Semantic Web stack and tools; Understanding of the standard knowledge representation languages (RDF/S, Οντολογίες OWL 2); Familiarization with semantics and reasoning principles (Description Logics, Rules); Use of the standard query language over knowledge graphs (SPARQL) Skills: Training on the development and management of semantic models, reasoning and information extraction from knowledge graphs; Ontology design and development in Protégé.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Introduction; Semantic Web architecture and technologies; The Resource Description Framework (RDF) model (terms, syntax, triples, graphs, examples); RDF Schema (RDFS) (vocabulary, classes, properties, instances, reasoning); Knowledge Representation and Reasoning (Predicate logic, First-order logic, Description Logics); The Web Ontology Language (OWL 2) (introduction, vocabulary, syntax, semantics, reasoning, rules); Standard RDF query language (SPARQL) (syntax, capabilities, tools); Examples of using ontologies for the development of intelligent applications; Example triple stores; Ontology design and development in Protégé.
