Course Content (Syllabus)
The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts and practices of archaeological excavation and the problems of archaeological sites. The following objects will be deployed: History of excavation research Excavation methodology and techniques Concepts and principles of stratigraphy Excavation techniques, horizontal and vertical Relative and absolute dating Excavation documentation: diaries, geological description, lists of finds Planning, photography, photogrammetry Samples and sampling Laboratory analyzes and computer applications in the field Surface survey, remote sensing, geophysical survey Excavation data processing Databases, records, topographical, topographical databases Excavation archives and warehouses Identifying phases and periods Management of archaeological sites Management programs – regulatory plans Protection zones Problems of archaeological sites: restoration, fixing, restoration. Shelter of archaeological sites As part of the course, there will be a visit to the archaeological site of Amphipolis, where: a) an on-site analysis of the regulatory plan (archaeological park) of Ancient Amphipolis, b) observation of an excavation site and c) a guided tour of the archaeological site and "Kasta Hill" Lessons in excavations Dimitria Malamidou, Head of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Serres
