Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students are expected to:
1. Develop a personal philosophy for teaching and learning in music through critical analysis of modern theoretical positions and research studies related to creativity.
2. Understand through research studies the ways children interact musically by improvising and composing music in a free or organised context.
3. Εnrich their personal skills through participation in improvisation and composition activities.
4. Get in touch with modern trends related to the encouragement of children's musical creativity taking into account both the design of space and educational material as well as the selection of appropriate tools to evaluate their creative activities.
5. Develop basic research skills on issues related to children's spontaneous musical creation during play and their musical interaction during the creative activities of composing and improvising music.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to familiarise students with the theoretical framework of a child-centred and dialogic view of music education. Research approaches describing the process of discovering and creating sounds while participating in musical play, improvisation and group music composition are explored. The mediating role of the teacher, peer group support during the process of co-creation and the development of reflective thinking are central axes for deepening the process of music creation. The learning process is enriched through assignments aimed at critically presenting the literature and organising research projects related to investigating and understanding children's musical creativity.

- Specific software is used for presentations (ppt) as well as recording and reproducing sound and video files to enrich the teaching, laboratory/artistic and research activity.

Student Assessment
Description
Assessment includes individual and group assignments that are presented in detail on the course platform. Their goal is familiarisation with ways of reading and presenting the literature and available sources. At the same time, support is given for the gradual organization and implementation of a small-scale individual final research paper related to the requirements of the course. All assignments are presented and enriched through feedback and discussion with the course team.
