Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: 1) apply the steps of statistical inference, 2) perform analyses in SPSS, 3) manage, evaluate and analyze molecular data, 4) use biological databases, 5) operate tools for retrieval, comparison and analysis of biological information.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course covers the combined understanding of basic principles of statistical analysis and processing of biological data. Course contents include 1) introduction to basic statistical concepts, distributions and statistical inference, 2) hands-on statistical analysis in SPSS, 3) analysis of variance (ANOVA), 4) discriminant analysis, 5) principal components analysis, linear regression analysis. With regard to bioinformatics analysis, students will be trained in computer applications on the organization and understanding of biological information, the management, control and analysis of molecular data for the purpose of drawing biological conclusions, the use of the numerous databases of biological information via the internet, tools for retrieval, comparison and analysis of biological information and the finding of homology between DNA and protein sequences.
