Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course the students will be able to:
- Understand the concept of teaching in early childhood education in accordance with contemporary pedagogical perspectives
- Recognise teaching methods, strategies and techniques appropriate to preschool children;
- Recognize the importance of appropriate teaching and learning resources for children's learning
- Choose the appropriate teaching method/strategy taking into account various factors
- Recognize the value and role of play in children's teaching and learning
- Use dialogue and questions for children's learning
- Design inquiries that stem from children's interests
Course Content (Syllabus)
The course will examine teaching methods, strategies and techniques which are considered suitable for pre-school children and guided by modern principles of learning and teaching in pre-school education. Special emphasis will be placed on play, dialogic teaching and inquiry-based teeaching. The role of the teacher, the importance of appropriate teaching and learning resources and the role of children in the teaching and learning process will be discussed.
