Learning Outcomes
Upon the successful completion of the course the students are expected to:
1. have understood that fiction refers always to a specific society which is reflected, constructed, critisized by the literary work.
2. have realized that the representations of society in each and every fictional work are influenced by the author's political, social and cultural ideas and values.
3. have realized that readers give meaning to the social representations of the literary work based on their own experiences and ideas.
4. be able to connect the social representations of the literary work with general conceptions of society and with contemporary social issues.
5. have read whole novels and have known contemporary greek fiction.

Course Content (Syllabus)
The notions of fiction, representation, ideology, reality.
The author' s ideology, the relation between biography and work.
The role of the reader and the issue of giving meaning.
Characteristics of the short story and the novel.
The literary movements of realism, naturalism and modernism in modern greek fiction.
A short history of the evolution of greek fiction from 1974 to the present.
Methods of analysis and presentation of a novel.

Description
Power poiht presentations, videos and other mulitmodal material will be used in lectures. Students will prepare multimodal presentations of literary works. There will be continuous communications with students via email and the e-learning platform.

Student Assessment
Description
The assessment will be based on a group project which will include reading, analysis and presentation of a novel or a collection of short stories according to the research questions that will be elaborated during classes. The assessment criteria will be uploaded in the e-learning platform and will be explained in class. These are: a) close reading pf the litarary work and research on its critical reception b) implementation of the analytical tools and the research questions that have been given in class c) the structure of the presentation d) the good cooperation among the students of the group and the consistent communication with the professor.
