Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be:
• Familiarised with the origins, the contemporary currents and the debates typical of qualitative research methods in the social sciences.
• Able to understand and utilise qualitative tools on the basis of their compatibility with particular phenomena and inquiries.
• Cognisant of the role of the social and political researcher in the contemporary world.
• Able to navigate between different tools, capacities, skills etc. in order to utilise and assess the relevance of qualitative research in Political Science.
• Capable of articulating original research designs with the use of qualitative methods (incl. triangulation).

Course Content (Syllabus)
The course is divided into two parts. In the first, students are introduced to the logic and the appropriateness of qualitative research in the social and political sciences. In the second part, emphasis is placed on basic methods, research design and the different stages of concrete qualitative research and the production and use of qualitative data. Within the context of the second part, students will be asked to construct and work on their own research project.
