Course Content (Syllabus)
In the course, basic aspects of the theological thought of the New Testament writers will be presented. The particular theological interests of the individual books will be linked to the life of the early Christian communities and the trends that developed in them. Finally, possible connections will be sought with contemporary social concerns, with issues of contemporary anthropology and issues of church organization and life, as well as the connection of the Church with the contemporary world. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the history of research and trends in the field of NT theology, the theological ideas of various communities of primitive Christianity (e.g., Hellenists or the Pauline communities), individual theological issues (e.g. Christology, soteriology), the role of cultural context in shaping the theology of the individual books of the NT, and will seek the possible relevance of this ideological world of the New Testament to the concerns of the modern world and the Church today.
