Course Content (Syllabus)
The course aims to familiarize students with the philosophy of praxis in relation to problems of social and political philosophy. More specifically, the following topics will be discussed:
1) Basic themes of the philosophy of praxis: The genesis and development of modern society, the process of rational objectification, the phenomenon of reification in different social fields: economics, politics, administration, science, technology, etc.
2) The general concept of the development of culture and the specific problem of reification in its historical and synchronous dimensions.
3) The structural homology between social practices and dominant forms of knowledge and consciousness.
4) The social production and reproduction of the dominant form of consciousness and culture.
5) The suggestion of the philosophy of praxis on how to overcome modern dualism and alienation.
6) On the occasion of the discussion of Georg Lukács' work, references will be made to other theorists of the philosophy of praxis: Korsch, Gramsci, Horkheimer, Marcuse.
7) Current questions about the relationship between technical culture and social alienation: The problem of institutions and practices required by a free society.
