Course Content (Syllabus)
This laboratory course is dedicated to an in-depth study of film music composition and its practical application. Students undertake exercises and projects focusing on rhythm, harmony, melody, and related topics pertinent to film scoring. The course builds on concepts introduced in earlier modules (5HM3, 7HM3) and advances students’ compositional skills for audiovisual media.

Description
Assessment is based on the presentation and submission of an original composition for a selected short film or scene, composed during the semester. The project is presented during the final weeks and submitted in its final form during the examination period. Evaluation criteria include originality, coherence with narrative, instrumentation and timbral choices, interaction with sound design, and overall craft. The submitted score must contain at least three minutes of original music and feature at least three distinct musical layers (voices) in addition to any rhythmic/percussive elements. Compositions may be produced in any DAW and employ any approach (tonal, atonal, MIDI, field recordings, experimental techniques, musique concrète, etc.).
