Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will: 1) become familiar with the basic principles of design, structure, and organization of biological databases 2) be able to retrieve and analyze available data 3) understand the content of GenBank flatfiles 4) be able to carry out DNA sequence alignment 5) be able to conduct BLAST searches 6) be able to retrieve data via API access.

Course Content (Syllabus)
Course contents include: 1) basic principles of design, structure and organization of biological databases, 2) retrieval and analysis of available information, 3) content analysis of GenBank flatfiles, 4) DNA sequence alignment, 5) the BLAST algorithm, 6) API access and data retrieval in biological databases, 7) biomedical and cancer databases.
